Bleu Reviews: Renegades

Rating: 4 out of  5

I have finally read a book written by Marissa Meyer and considering the page count, I’m very proud of myself.  I fell into a reading slump during this book, and had to switch to an audio book to actually complete the novel but I finished and i’m still on track for my 2018 Reading Challenge.

Renegades by Marissa Meyer is a YA novel all about superheroes. Very much in the way of X-Men, these “prodigies” (mutants, specials whatevs) were being persecuted for their gifts and were only free of that persecution after a revolt. What would later become the villains were originally the ones willing to fight to end the system that oppressed them. As usual with these sort of things, the power went to their heads and we were faced with a decade of anarchy.

My favorite parts of this book would be the plot and underlying message the book itself conveys. In Renegades, post anarchy, the Renegades are both the police force and  the governing body. Civilization has ground to a halt and prodigies are relied on for everything. It makes me think of the Powerpuff Girls, Too Pooped to Puff  (Season 2, Episode 3) it seems the non-prodigy citizens of Gatlon have fallen into the same boat.

The worst part of the read was really just the pacing, the action scenes were fast-paced, easy to get through but the delivery of backstory  d    r     a    g    g    e    d …  and it killed me at times to read. I finally caved and hunted down an audio book on YouTube.

20180624_152315I love that the two main characters have triple identities and that you can see where at times Nova truly believes in the intent of the Renegades mission while not necessarily agreeing with their existence.

Nova was my favorite character, her inner turmoil made getting through the slower parts more enjoyable. I especially love where the first book leaves her and I’m eager to find out what happens to her next. Sketch is easily overshadowed as far as characters go though he is very well written as the “all-american” golden boy, it feels pretty cliche at times and the only thing changing that was the introduction of the Sentinel.

There are definitely a few plot twists I hadn’t seen coming, but for now I’m only finishing the series because I started it and want to know what Nova plans to do next. I did hear that this was also going to be a graphic novel. I’m much more interested in seeing what the story looks like.

DeadPool 2: The F is for Family!

20180521_1023382043193279.jpg

Shortly after half the Marvel Universe disappeared with a snap of Thanos’s fingers, DeadPool returned to remind you that things could only get better from here. This time around my IMAX movie tickets were $4 courtesy of T-Mobile Tuesdays. 9616204ed86abea527355de6ede48bc31477448474.jpg

As expected the movie was phenomenal, all of the things a DeadPool movie should be, action-packed, snarky and entertaing af! They did not disappoint, and even found time to add some emotion into the movie.

As Wade explains at the beginning of the movie it may be OK to bring your kids, (if your kid is at least 12 years old) because the underlying theme of the movie is about family maybe not in the traditional bc8ba9efcf245f9df87b3e744ecb743a2052010457.jpgsense but that’s always been part of the franchises charm.

Big news of Josh Brolin made many drool, (all I kept thinking of is how he is winning 2018) and his rendition as Cable was better than I thought it could be (apparently he’s the son of Cyclops and the cloned Jean Grey). Ultimately the bad guy in the story is the very person they are trying to protect.

This movie was also hilarious! Just what I needed to wash the taste of Black Panther  turning to dust from my memory. Deadpool is as snarky as always and without spoiling too much Domino proves that Luck is most certainly a superpower.

Now In Theatres – Avengers:Infinity War

Thursday Night I was perfectly seated center screen to watch Marvel’s Avengers:Infinity War. We went to Rave Cinema at 40th & Walnut St. where I snagged a collector’s edition cup with my beverage. Ordering my tickets from Fandango got me 1 of 5 free posters  img_20180427_134235_024779716803.jpgfrom the movie.Officially in Theaters April 27, opening night of course was Thursday, (Apr 26) and I was fortunate enough to get tickets before they were sold out.

I absolutely loved the film, the graphics and special effects were amazing. I lost my mind throughout the fight scenes and everything looked very well put together. Much of what I’ve come to expect from Marvel movies.

Once again the fate of the world rests on the shoulders of people who i’m sure at this point would’ve loved to stay home in bed that day, but it seems that they may not succeed this time around. The Marvel Universe introduces one of the biggest bad guys they’ve come up against yet in Thanos, and Josh 65e6eddb91bf03a669d53240b200e1941378490278.jpgBrolin plays the role perfectly.

With such an amazing star-studded cast of course the acting was great. The relationship between Bruce Banner and The Hulk was one of the more comical situations and Mark Ruffalo and Tom Holland etched their ways into my memory. It’s the moment Marvel Fans of all ages have been waiting for; if you’re familiar with the comics, the all-out life & death battle between all our heroes and Thanos.

A real race to retrieve or destroy the Infinity stones in order to prevent Thanos from acquiring them all wiping out half the universe. Thanos’s reasons are allegedly to save lives. The Avengers struggle to the very last seconds to win the conflict but there’s a part two so naturally things don’t go as planned.

Coming Soon! – Captain America: Civil War (Special Assist Trailer)

CaptainAmericaCivilWar3

We’re all waiting with bated breath for the newest installment in the Captain America franchise. If for no reason other than to watch Chris Evan and Robert Downey Jr. hit each other while dressed up like super heroes.

By now we all know the premise. After the Avengers save the world AGAIN, they’re contacted by politicians who have complaints about the damage they’ve left in their wake. (As if there’s a tidy way to knock a robot through a building)

The government requested a political presence involved to direct the team. However, this new adjustment causes a problem.

Captain America and Iron Man have been dying to fight each other since the first Avengers movie, their differences split the team in two; with Captain America wanting no government interference and Iron Man suggesting they do include the government in there operations.

The rest of course is worked out with their fists, the part I’m most interested in seeing.

To keep us panting Marvel recently released a new trailer for the movie. Watch through the end for a sneak peek at the special assist who will also be featured in the new movie.
