#ShowsWeLove: Charmed Reboot

picture quotes15209828703931984200158..jpg

I am the sun,

I am the air,

I am human and I need to be loved,

Just like everybody else….does.

I was obsessed with the Halliwell sisters as a kid. Originally airing in 1998, Charmed, was a fantasy-drama starring Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano. I am a huge Alyssa Milano fan and a show involving her and magic was exactly what I needed.

The show ran for eight years finally ending in 2006 after several battles against darkness and once each of the sisters was married with children. I was crushed to see the show end, but happy they buttoned it up so nicely.

Possible talks of a reboot, sent images of Wyatt and Chris

returning with children of their own, or perhaps even Phoebe and her children (as she was the only one to have a trio of girls) swirling into focus. Though as the CW began finalizing details about the shows reincarnation, all hopes I’ve had of seeing the Halliwell bloodline continue have been dashed.

Instead the headlines have been checkered with news of a new feminist twist, the Halliwell name being converted and the cast getting a new Hispanic twist. I was afraid that what we’d get was a watered down version of the original we loved. But the CW promised:

“This fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series centers on three sisters – Macy (Mantock), Mel (Diaz) and Madison (Jeffery) — in a college town who, after the tragic death of their mother, are stunned to discover they are witches. Soon this powerful threesome must stand together to fight the everyday and supernatural battles that all modern witches must face: from vanquishing powerful demons to toppling the patriarchy.”

No offense to the hardworking staff on this show but with the exception of adding a lesbian to the trio the concept seems very similar to the original Charmed. Madeleine

Mantock, Melonie Diaz and Sarah Jeffery have been cast as the new versions of the Halliwell sisters though their last name will no longer be Halliwell.

This will be the first television inception of Charmed since the show ended in 2006, but the series had been a comic book following it’s shows end which brought back Prue and

continued on the Halliwell bloodline. That series also ended in 2012 leaving a new breed of diehard Charmed fans.

Echoes of Prue, Phoebe and Piper are clearly visible in the recreations of the new sisters. The eldest sister, Macy, a veritable Prue clone is described as “practical, driven, and brilliant geneticist.” Also like Prue, her world is most affected by their witchy secret. Mel, the middle sister who also happens to be an outspoken activist and lesbian is very different than Piper (Like a Piper/Paige mix) and finally The youngest sister, Madison, played by Sarah Jeffery described as a “bubbly college freshman” who’s witch business occasionally muddles her sorority girl aspirations.

I’m not completely against it, but i’m a little worried that they’re going to ruin a classic. Hopefully, the show’s move to the CW as well as new writer’s will add to the franchise instead of staining it.

What’s New Pussycat: Literacy Programs (Books Through Bars)

fb_img_1520964442251555898774.jpgI started Blu Moon Fiction in order to share my passion for books and writing. I’ve been fortunate to work with some pretty respectable charities in my time as a result, which has fostered my interests in starting a few of my own as well as supporting the ones I work with presently.

Every Tuesday between 7:30 and 9:30 pm a few kind souls gather together and send some books to individuals in need. Books Through Bars, an all-volunteer non-profit organization helps the community while striving to reverse the devastating effects that injustice and incarceration has on individuals, families and communities.

What interested me the most in this group was their book distribution programBooks Through Bars, sends free books and educational materials to prisoners in; Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, New York, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. The books are sent to anyone who asks, as long as their prison accepts books.

Books Through Bars also hosts Address This! an education and empowerment project providing innovative correspondence courses to individuals incarcerated in Pennsylvania. Address This! pays special attention to the participation of prisoners in address thissolitary confinement or maximum security, who often have little access to such educational options.

Through their community outreach, strives to educate the general public about prison issues. The organization has sat in on panels and staff tables at community events to raise awareness around prison issues. Books Through Bars has also hosted a film festival, read-a-thons, as well as various public conversation on alternatives to prisons

The group is responsible for affecting thousands of lives, from the organizations recipients across the US down to the volunteers who’ve dedicated their time to make a difference. fb_img_1520612713256858056820.jpg

The group gathers most of its books from donations and is always looking for more, I decided to do my part by hosting a Read-Olympics and Book Drive on behalf of the program. Blu Moon Fiction will also be selling a fantasy art calendar featuring local talent. With 10% of the proceeds going to this organization right here.

If you’d like to donate your time as well as a book or two. Books Through Bars;  holds weekly volunteering, Tuesday nights 7:30–9:30 PM. But if you’re in the area on a weekend and would like to also volunteer you can also do so on the 1st & 3rd Saturday of every month.

Blu Moon Fiction Calendar: Coming Soon

I’m always looking for new ideas to promote literacy and to engage in my creative side. If I can find a way to promote local talent as well that is an added bonus. So while brainstorming ideas for my next fundraising project; I decided to put together a fantasy art calendar featuring local artists.

The fantasy art calendar will feature artists from Philadelphia and the surrounding area and money raised from the sale of the calendar will be donated to the local charity, Books Through Bars. I discovered the group, which sends books to inmates in the Mid-Atlantic region of the US, while looking for volunteer opportunities.

The organization is always in need of book donations, extra helping hands and donations of course. Which is what

spawned the idea for the calendar, book drive and Read-Olympics all coming soon in the next few months.

I’m looking for local artists, in the Philadelphia and surrounding area. All submissions are welcome. Any interested artists should include two sketches for review. The first sketch should have the #WhatsYourStory theme.

#WhatsYourStory is Blu Moon Fiction’s call to action. It not only encourages creative’s to share their perspectives but also serves as a challenge to find innovative ways in expressing our creativity.

This sketch is a freestyle option, provided it includes #WhatsYourStory in the actual picture.

The only requirement for the second picture is that the central theme must be books or reading. If I get enough responses I’ll happily produce multiple calendars using everyone’s artwork. For now, I’m looking for 12 local artists interested in sharing their talents for a good cause. 10% of the proceeds from the calendar will be donated to Books Through Bars.

Check back with Blu Moon Fiction, over the next few weeks for more details on the Blu Moon Fiction 2018 Read-Olympics/ Book Drive. As well as for more info on how to get involved with the Blu Moon Fiction Fantasy Calendar. If interested in participating in either the Blu Moon Fiction calendar or The Read – Olympics, send all inquiries to BluMoonFiction@gmail.com Subject: Calendar

2017 Year In Review!

Happy New Year All! I started planning 2018 long before the year ended just to be sure that I could keep on track. Before I get too ahead of myself though, I wanted to take a minute to look back on 2017. It was the year that brought my mojo back and even found a permanent direction for the blog. Alas, I’m not 100% sure how much reading I accomplished but 2017 for me was a reawakening of my passion for literature and the written word.

My goal was to dedicate more time to the blog and I’m happy to report that I succeeded posting every month except for two.  Just so you can understand why this is important. In 2016 I was only able to post for 6 months before the chaos of following multiple subjects overwhelmed me. 2017 was a chance to streamline focusing more on my writing and the pursuit of new books.

Books of 2017

Globe’s Disease

House of D’Antonio

The Entire Artemis Fowl Series

A Madness So Discreet

Night of the Animals

How to Write Sci-Fi & Fantasy

The Movies We Watched

This year fans lost their collectove minds as highly anticipated additions of several sagas were released including Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Thor: Ragnarok, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Logan.

The release of new horror/satire Get Out caused a massive controversy and broke box office records being nominated for  Best Motion Picture and Best Actor.

Funny story, the Marvel/DC Comics war will continue as the years most anticipated releases, (says me and my friends) Justice League & Thor Ragnarok. Though Justice League was definitely better than I expected, Thor threw things at me I didn’t even know to consider. Plus it really was the better of the two.

Reading Goal: 20 Books
I am only slightly embarrassed to admit that I didn’t complete my reading goal for 2017. I managed to finish 13 Books before the year ended, which is a drop in the bucket compared to other lists.  As I said I was reawakening, so I spent most of the year in a reading slump.  I was able to discover a few independent authors, such as Lance Oliver Keeble and Reece Cooper James.

Once I started reading again however, I’d completing an entire 8 Book series. A historical fiction I obsessed about for weeks as well as a reference book that brought me closer to completing my own W.I.P.

The most exciting thing about 2017 was the opportunity to outdo myself this year. This will be a year to aim higher with more books, more posts and maybe even the release of my first novel.🤞🏽🤞🏽

This year the goal is 25 Books of which 25 separate reviews will be written. Naturally this is flexible because I also want to read 1 new non-fiction quarterly just to diversify.

The search for more series will continue as I fine tune my book collecting interests. Around Christmas time I discovered a site that offered autographed copies of old books, and that warrants more research.

Maybe if I’m lucky I can sneak in a few classics.

Did you achieve your 2017 reading goals? What bookish pursuits will 2018 hold for you? Let me Know in the Comments Below!

Sims 4 Real Housewives of NewCrest!

Sims 4 logo 1

OMG Noel where have you been hiding?

Me: I haven’t been hiding, I’ve been playing Sims 4.

Ladies and Gents, thank you so patiently for bearing with me, I promised reviews, book hauls and more… and then I decided that Grad school may be a good idea; then winter came. I DESPISE winter!

As soon as temperatures drop below the comfortable sweater weather of 75 degrees, yours truly starts storing stuff for winter and deciding on which flannel looks best with a blue wig! In one last attempt at being productive, I decided the combined passion of the Sims 4 plus writing could keep me motivated enough to keep the blog going and excuse the copious amounts of time i’d be spending on this video game.

Along Came Reality TV…

Quick Tidbit: Reality TV is my guilty pleasure and I binge-watch it hardcore.

After catching up on my faves, I discovered this post by IIOMQILOVESIMS a profile on the Sims 4 community forum, they found it from somewhere else. You can check out the original post here.  I’ve never been able to keep up with a Sims 4 challenge. While playing I kept forgetting to gets pics and video and when I do remember I forget to post. It gets a bit daunting.  Here’s one more shot, and you all can keep me honest as I try my hand at…

The Real Housewives of Newcrest Challenge!!!

This challenge aims to get all your housewives to know each other, maintain a high relationship, while creating drama!

Rules of Game Play!

Create – A – Sim:

Each household has to be an original creation by you. The specifics are for you to choose from but they must all be at least YA or above.  You can make 5-8 women for this challenge but group only allow up to 8 members. So only those in the group are a part of your “cast”.

Unlike reality TV, each housewife has to have a husband, his specifics also up to you. However, the husbands have to be a bit muscular. (Not sure why but let’s go with it.) They can be really muscular or a little muscular.

Finally, your housewives should have children! They can have as many children as you want, if you think you can handle it. Create their children the old fashioned way with “Try For Baby” or by using the “Play With Genetics” tab in CAS. They can have whatever aspirations and traits you want.

Make sure the housewives and their families are in different households.

If you watch “The Real Housewives of….” Anything you’ll be quite familiar with the most extravagant houses known to man. For this challenge give us the most extravagant houses known to Newcrest, (Shouldn’t be hard it’s completely blank)  They MUST live in Newcrest. Put your housewives in the larger lots. You can build your own house or get one from the gallery.

*Don’t forget to make your sims super rich! #Motherlode

Using the gallery or your own building skills, create a few “landmarks”, for example, a lounge, club, pool etc. Build a “Housewives Club” with any lot type you want, like a lounge, club, bar etc. Make as many social places as you want to fill up your town. The housewives can travel the other towns freely, but Make sure all your housewives are in Newcrest, not the other towns that are in your game.

  1. Choose a housewife that you want be your head housewife. Choose wisely, as this is your choice for the whole gameplay. This housewife has to be known to the other housewives in your game.
  2. To maintain the house they can do the housework themselves,  with the help of their kids and spouse or get a maid to do it.
  3. Everyday your housewife MUST do some sort of physical activity such as the gym, jog or running etc. This can keep your housewife fit and make sure they do not become overweight.
  4. Your housewife can enjoy the luxuries of being a housewife by relaxing by the pool, going to the shops and other things.
  5. Housewives children can date the other housewives children.
  6. Housewives must follow the weekly “Schedule” of activities.

Housewife Meeting: On Mondays we brunch! Have this  hangout at any public lot that serves food. Get your housewives to sit down, eat, and create some drama! Don’t forget to catch it on camera and hit record.

Housewife meeting: Today’s meeting is at a bar or lounge. Again get them sucy and see what happens.

Housewife Club Day: Today’s meeting is at the “Housewives Club”. Make sure your housewives club has a dining table, bar, kitchen (make sure your housewives don’t manage to get in the kitchen) and a lounge. Like the other days, sit, eat and socialize!

Gym Day: This is the final housewife meeting for the week. Today, have your ladies hit the gym, they can use the work out machines, do yoga or hit the sauna but they must work out Be sure they socialize and see what happens.

Dinner Party: Each Friday a new housewife hosts a dinner party. Everyone is invited, including the housewives, husbands and children. This night will cause the most drama. Like, housewives are sleeping with each others husbands, kids are trashing the house and the housewives.. are just being housewives. Each sim week, a different housewife has to host the dinner party. This social event also has the opportunity for the housewives to meet other housewives husbands, children and gossip.

“Work” Day: Today, your housewives do some chores, such as shopping, cleaning the house etc. I gave each of my housewives a hobby they could make money at from home, writing, baking, programming, painting crafting. Today have your sims work on that. The kids and hubby will have to “fend for themselves” let the kids enjoy the weekend with friends or by exploring their surroundings.

Bonding Day: On this last day of the week, the housewives, husbands and children are spending some time today. There will be no external housewife interaction, however, if they call, decline the call.  Like a real family take them out as a group. In the night, gather all your family together to socialize, like talking watching a movie together or playing a board game.

All the days should be repeated, but if you would like to make some tweaks, go ahead.
