Now In Theatres – Avengers:Infinity War

Thursday Night I was perfectly seated center screen to watch Marvel’s Avengers:Infinity War. We went to Rave Cinema at 40th & Walnut St. where I snagged a collector’s edition cup with my beverage. Ordering my tickets from Fandango got me 1 of 5 free posters  img_20180427_134235_024779716803.jpgfrom the movie.Officially in Theaters April 27, opening night of course was Thursday, (Apr 26) and I was fortunate enough to get tickets before they were sold out.

I absolutely loved the film, the graphics and special effects were amazing. I lost my mind throughout the fight scenes and everything looked very well put together. Much of what I’ve come to expect from Marvel movies.

Once again the fate of the world rests on the shoulders of people who i’m sure at this point would’ve loved to stay home in bed that day, but it seems that they may not succeed this time around. The Marvel Universe introduces one of the biggest bad guys they’ve come up against yet in Thanos, and Josh 65e6eddb91bf03a669d53240b200e1941378490278.jpgBrolin plays the role perfectly.

With such an amazing star-studded cast of course the acting was great. The relationship between Bruce Banner and The Hulk was one of the more comical situations and Mark Ruffalo and Tom Holland etched their ways into my memory. It’s the moment Marvel Fans of all ages have been waiting for; if you’re familiar with the comics, the all-out life & death battle between all our heroes and Thanos.

A real race to retrieve or destroy the Infinity stones in order to prevent Thanos from acquiring them all wiping out half the universe. Thanos’s reasons are allegedly to save lives. The Avengers struggle to the very last seconds to win the conflict but there’s a part two so naturally things don’t go as planned.

Shows We Love: Once Upon A Time

OUAT S7 Promo poster Med

I’d just finished watching Episode Three of Season 7, Once Upon A Time on Hulu. As usual the previews for Episode Four were not included and of course no clip of that exists on HULU either. So I decided to hit YouTube because of course ABC has thought of this yes?

Opening up Google, my eye immediately snatches the top of Cinderella/Jacinda’s head. Obvi’s I was clicking it. The article from Deadline.com basically quantified what we all knew was bound to happen.

Proclaiming to the world,

‘Once Upon a Time’ & ‘Marvel’s Inhumans’ Slip To Demo Ratings Lows”

Nellie Andreeva who covers TV for the site states,

” ABC’s female-friendly Once Upon a Time (0.5 adults 18-49 rating, 2.52 million total viewers) that tied for the biggest demo drop (-0.2) on Friday to hit a new *L+SD series low.”

Once Upon A Time’s dip in ratings is just another symptom of all Season 7 shows, few survive to air a season 8.

Move it to Friday at 8pm when everyone is out doing stuff, watch the ratings plummet OUAT S7 EP 1 - Regina and Orig Henryand the hand them the axe. It’s not shocking, but foreboding of one of my favorite shows.  (and I’m still coming to grips with the end of Scandal)

The storyline though partially recycled actually has a creative twist with elements of the orignal show that we remember and loved.  Much how Snow White and the Evil Queen shared a sordid past that fueled Regina’s ire for Snow.  “Cinder” Ella has somehow played a hand in the death albeit a temporary one, of Lady Tremaine’s daughter Anastasia.

Lady Tremaine has figured out how to save the girls very last breath  (That’s new), She conceals her in aOUAT S7 Ep 1 - Cinderella Henry Carriage 1 coffin much like Regina kept Daniel in MythHaven.

Keeping the flashback’s we need to understand why any of this is happening, Once has so far mirrored the love story of Snow White and Prince Charming. Back in Hyperion Heights, Lucy struggles to help her parents remember themselves much like Henry had to convince Emma that she was indeed the savior.

OUAT S7 EP 3 - Ella and Tiana 1This Season definitely has seen a more ethnic presence in the cast, selecting both Cinderella a main female lead while making Tiana (who was black anyway) a series regular and what I’ll take a guess at is Hyperion Height’s version of either Ruby or Belle and with the inclusion of the Frog Princess there’s plenty more coming our way.

I for one would be crushed if they cancelled Once Upon A Time.  I’m invested in where this goes and need for Mr. Horowitz to stretch his brain to its limits until he has managed to Oncify every last fairy tale we can think of !

At least until Henry has kids, then maybe stop…

Just a side-note the article doesn’t account for all alternative viewings such as HULU and other streaming services only live and same day coverage.

So who knows, maybe they’ll make a deal with Netflix?

*L+SD – Live and Same Day rating

*Oncify and Obvi’s (obviously) are both made up and trademarked by Blu Moon Fiction

#ShowsWeLove:OUAT Reboot

Not many shows survive a reboot. The old fans are just way too attached to the original cast to care about what new story you’re trying to tell. Change the day and time and you’re basically letting the world know you’re about to cancel the show.

So no wonder we all trembled in fear when half the cast of Once Upon A Time quit and the show time moved to Friday’s at 8pm.

We start this season with a jump to 18-year-old Henry heading through a portal with Regina bidding him farewell. He and a very flustered looking Cinderella are rushing headfirst towards each other on a strip of road in a “New Realm”

Henry is much older now and we understand that this will be a new version of the show entirely by Henry’s farewell to Regina, “There are dozens of stories across the world but I’m the only me” I’m paraphrasing obviously, but it prepares you for when you see another Cinderella.

A fact I’m still on the fence about. On the one hand a reboot means you can do whatever you please however, I vaguely remember Cinderella being one of their first stories.

This new spin with Cinderella as Henry’s true love and the Evil Stepmother as the villain (a great choice btw) definitely let’s us know we’re not in Storeybrooke anymore.

Recycling the first episode of the series is a risk. I’m not sure if I like it yet. Henry as the “true believer” doesn’t seem to believe Lucy very much very a la Emma if i do say so myself.

Grown up Henry is a blocked writer who hasn’t been able to write anything since his debut Once Upon A Time. He’s surprised by a little girl claiming to be his daughter.

Sound familiar?

Apparently Hyperion Heights is the new version of Storeybrooke, where everyone is trapped without magic. The neighborhood is being gentrified scattering the original (Storeybrooke) characters across the world.

In fairytale land Henry was roofied  by a menacing looking Alice who seems to be working for Rumple. Her warning to Henry was that he wasn’t in his story. Yet he and Cinderella seem to be destined for each other.

I wonder what happens to Violet that Cinderella us his true love?

The episode ends with a promotion for our favorite neighborhood Captn. Hook who gets teamed up with Rumplestilitskin/ Weaver.

Roni/Regina decides to not sell her bar to the wicked stepmother Madame Bellfrey.  Her triumphant monologue pans through the city while we see the slight change in each of our characters.

I’m looking forward to seeing how this plays out.

Operation Glass Slipper is a go!

Clearing Your Writing To Do List

We’ve all heard the age old saying, “Writer’s Write” but unless you’ve already arrived you’re probably trying to find a way to be a writerly writer whilst balancing a full time job, family and dare I say it sustaining friendships? It’s not always easy to find your groove and some days your Muse is taking a nap. I get it and this article is chocked full of the pot and kettle schtick today because i too struggle with setting time aside for my craft. We’re gonna jump right in anyway and attempt to glean some insight on how so many other people have “managed to do it”.

When I worked in sales on this super peppy pyramid team they’d advised us to set goals that we’d wanted to achieve that year. At the top of my list was find a better job which i was able to do, but my better job has never been the job I wanted. I want to be a famous author, fund literacy programs and make millions off of my shows and books without having to leave my bedroom. Instead I work at a call center, and spend my days trying to cram writing spurts in between phone calls.

It’s daunting at times, but writer’s write. So even on days when you’ve stared at the same line for the past 20 minutes and all you’ve added was a comma remember that you at least took time to sharpen the blade that is your writing skill. For all other days, there’s a wonderful thing to be said about goal setting. I personally am always proud of myself when I get to scracth another task off my list.

To get started let’s use the S.M.A.R.T. goal setting model. Because it’s the easiest to track. Writer’s goals like all other life goals should be measured based on Specific tasks, that are Measurable in nature, reasonably Attainable, Relevant to achieving an overall goal, and Time – Bound to ensure it can be completed.  I’ve used this method in planning for other aspects of my life but this will be the first time modifying it for my writing needs.

For the sake of keeping busy i attempt to plot out 3 main objectives I’d like to accomplish, breaking them down into the SMART goal format just ensures i get them done. For the purposes of this post, i’ll be mapping out 3 objectives for the Blu Moon Fiction blog.

What We’re Reading: July – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone 20th Anniversary!

Anyone born after the 90s is well aware of the Harry Potter series and it’s ability to bring something as nerdy as magic wands and spectacles to mainstream popculture.

It started with a single book and spawned into a franchise worth billions. J.K. Rowling as a result has managed to go from living a life of homelessneed as a single mom to heading a global fantasy empire.

July’s book of the month is our tribute to the students of Hogwarts whom we’ve grown to know and love.

What We’re Reading: House of D’Antonio

House of D'Antonio

As always, we recommend reading the book for yourself and should you disagree with our views we encourage you to tell us. The very first thing I noticed when receiving my copy of, The House of D’Antonio by Reece Cooper James, was the beautiful cover. The young woman on the cover is very striking and the translucent figure gives a sense that something of the paranormal may be happening.

Flipping to the back of the book we read of Roman D’Antonio king of Brocklehurst and surviving ruler of the House of D’Antonio. He alone is charged with traveling through dimensions to seek out Abigail, whose bloodline is the key to breaking the D’Antonio curse. Abigail has been bred to understand her family’s legacy as one of great responsibility; in her world she envisions Roman as her imaginary friend. From the explanation you should infer  this novel is one that features the two meeting and blending worlds in a way that either successfully ends the curse or doesn’t. Unfortunately, that is not what you get.

The most noticeable thing when you open the book is the possibly triple spaced layout. There are a few minor typos that can be overlooked if you desire to power through. If layout doesn’t put you off and for some people it may, then continue reading and learn all about  Abigail “Abi”Trenaulde.
