#ShowsWeLove – AHS:Cult (Marathon Stream Ep.1-8)

I am finally all caught with American Horror Story Cult, and I must say I am in a weird state of the unknown. Most seasons I can say with certainty that I either love it or hate it, (even Coven one of my personal favs that everyone else despises.) This season for whatever reason hasn’t shoved me over the fence, I’m still waiting for a glimpse of the truly horrifying.

It may even be the influx of new characters i’ve yet to connect with or the fictionalized aftermath of a very real reality. One thing AHS has been able to provide this season is gore and plenty of it.

The members of the Kai Anderson cult dawn clown costumes to achieve their goals and to strike enough fear to swing the votes in his direction for city council.

Like all cult leaders Kai is charismatic, easy on the eyes, criminally insane and full of baloney. Seeing the desperation and loneliness in his followers, that he himself posessess, he hand picks the poor souls he leads. In the beginning there seemed to be a method to his madness. His group offered solidarity to those who felt marginalized and unheard, after the election. Yet each week,  we see the continuous unraveling of the once captivating councilman as he slips into the throws of insanity and paranoia.

Ally Mayfair-Richards has also undergone a transformation. Once terrified of her own shadow, months of torment by the cult has strengthened her so much that she becomes a member and gets her therapist/Kai’s older brother murdered.

Ivy who happily betrayed and assisted in the torment should probably sleep with one eye open especially since Beverly Hope has been transported to the room of isolation.

This seems very much like a real cult equipped with militarized chauvinists in matching outfits, love deprived women desperate for purpose and a hodge podge of confused individuals looking for a place to belong.

The killer clowns to sway the city council election is impressive! Next week we’ll be mimicking the Jonestown “True Believers” by poisoning some fruit punch.

Halloween Horror Story, let’s go!

Shows We Love: Once Upon A Time

OUAT S7 Promo poster Med

I’d just finished watching Episode Three of Season 7, Once Upon A Time on Hulu. As usual the previews for Episode Four were not included and of course no clip of that exists on HULU either. So I decided to hit YouTube because of course ABC has thought of this yes?

Opening up Google, my eye immediately snatches the top of Cinderella/Jacinda’s head. Obvi’s I was clicking it. The article from Deadline.com basically quantified what we all knew was bound to happen.

Proclaiming to the world,

‘Once Upon a Time’ & ‘Marvel’s Inhumans’ Slip To Demo Ratings Lows”

Nellie Andreeva who covers TV for the site states,

” ABC’s female-friendly Once Upon a Time (0.5 adults 18-49 rating, 2.52 million total viewers) that tied for the biggest demo drop (-0.2) on Friday to hit a new *L+SD series low.”

Once Upon A Time’s dip in ratings is just another symptom of all Season 7 shows, few survive to air a season 8.

Move it to Friday at 8pm when everyone is out doing stuff, watch the ratings plummet OUAT S7 EP 1 - Regina and Orig Henryand the hand them the axe. It’s not shocking, but foreboding of one of my favorite shows.  (and I’m still coming to grips with the end of Scandal)

The storyline though partially recycled actually has a creative twist with elements of the orignal show that we remember and loved.  Much how Snow White and the Evil Queen shared a sordid past that fueled Regina’s ire for Snow.  “Cinder” Ella has somehow played a hand in the death albeit a temporary one, of Lady Tremaine’s daughter Anastasia.

Lady Tremaine has figured out how to save the girls very last breath  (That’s new), She conceals her in aOUAT S7 Ep 1 - Cinderella Henry Carriage 1 coffin much like Regina kept Daniel in MythHaven.

Keeping the flashback’s we need to understand why any of this is happening, Once has so far mirrored the love story of Snow White and Prince Charming. Back in Hyperion Heights, Lucy struggles to help her parents remember themselves much like Henry had to convince Emma that she was indeed the savior.

OUAT S7 EP 3 - Ella and Tiana 1This Season definitely has seen a more ethnic presence in the cast, selecting both Cinderella a main female lead while making Tiana (who was black anyway) a series regular and what I’ll take a guess at is Hyperion Height’s version of either Ruby or Belle and with the inclusion of the Frog Princess there’s plenty more coming our way.

I for one would be crushed if they cancelled Once Upon A Time.  I’m invested in where this goes and need for Mr. Horowitz to stretch his brain to its limits until he has managed to Oncify every last fairy tale we can think of !

At least until Henry has kids, then maybe stop…

Just a side-note the article doesn’t account for all alternative viewings such as HULU and other streaming services only live and same day coverage.

So who knows, maybe they’ll make a deal with Netflix?

*L+SD – Live and Same Day rating

*Oncify and Obvi’s (obviously) are both made up and trademarked by Blu Moon Fiction

October Book Haul Pt. 1

I needed to complete some collections if I plan to meet my 2017 reading goal, but also I just really like having a full collection. Mostly rounding out series collections I’d already started, starting with the Divergent Trilogy and The Immortals. The Mortal Instruments, a series I started but was never able to finish were all ordered via Thrift Books and it saved me tons!

When the delivery came I assumed the complete order had arrived but some of my books may be coming from farther away. I now own the full Divergent Trilogy plus the Four Novella, and was also able to fill in the gaps of The Immortals and start working on The Mortal Instruments/Infernal Devices.  I can’t decide which series to start next!

What We’re Reading: Artemis Fowl  (The Lost Colony)

Book Number #5. As always I absolutely loved this book. I’ve been binge reading for my 2017 Book Review Challenge a running theme I’ve noticed in this series is Action.

This book is like if James Bond had a fairy god family or if Timmy Turner was a spy… A refreshing twist for the series is that we were dropped immediately into a situation. Artemis and Butler are tracking down  a demon when they notice they aren’t the only ones on the trail.

Holly fresh from quitting the LEP is a P.I./Bounty Hunter with Mulch Diggums. Ironically enough bounty hunters are ridiculed in this world too.

A new layer of the story is added with the introduction of Section 8. A secret sector of the LEP which handles assignments “confidential” and otherwise too “challenging” for standard LEP officers. Holly is immediately recruited.

This particular book does something many tv shows fail miserably at attempting. It provided a leap in time that moved the story along as well as refreshed the series. Jumping a few years into the future made Minerva an appropriate age. (She was 12 and he was 14 which seems inappropriate if a budding romance were to take place) While also giving everyone a brand new start.

I’ve been recommending this series for weeks and I’ll do it again. I’ve been dragged across Europe, To the Arctic and Back and out of space and time continuously. I personally feel a little exhausted but it’s just another day for Artemis Fowl.

My Netflix Addiction: What Happened To Monday

Sounds very much like a coming of age tale or some fuzzy Rom-Com but don’t let the title fool you. This movie is anything but rosey.
Set in the future, after the human population crisis caused the world to literally run out of food, a genetic mutation made creating food more feasible but the artificial substances in the food caused an insurance in multiple births, ( twins, triplets, etc.) Thus exacerbating an already existence conflict, Overpopulation.

The solution made by Glen Close, a one child per family rule. William Dafoe, plays a man with a big secret, he’s allows his late daughters seven daughters to live as one person. Named for each day of the week, they assume the identity of one Karen.

One day Monday’s Karen goes missing and it all unravels from there.

I do enjoy a good suspense movie and What Happened To Monday, offers the perfect blend of mystery, action and emotion to make this movie great for any Netflix & Chill session.

What We’re Reading: Artemis Fowl (The Opal Deception)

As a budding fan of the Artemis Fowl series, I’m pleased to say Eoin Colfer has not disappointed. The Opal Deception, starts of with the return of a formidable opponent and the final exit of one of our favorite heroes.

Artemis Fowl the Opal Deception seems to be all about evolution and growth. The evolution of Holly from a headstrong, impulsive cop to a tactical professional investigator who’s efforts have saved the people time and time again.

Artemis has evolved from a budding megalomaniac to a somewhat respectable if not dangerously intelligent young prodigy with a penchant for missing art.

Butler’s transition actually occurred in book three, dying and being brought back fifteen years older has that effect on some people.

Mulch also began his rebirth in book three, the criminal dwarf has been performing selfless acts in attempts to save Artemis forfeiting his traditional views as well as sometimes his freedom for our gang.

I suppose the biggest take away from Book Four: The Opal Deception is that this was a crossroads for the series. The first four books saw our characters as a motley crew thrown together by circumstance. Unlikely friendships were forming despite the differences in species and sides of the law.

The end of The Opal Deception showed a shift. For the first time it seems all of our group is on the same side. With the exception of Foaly of course who’s still head tech guy for the LEP.

There was a message scrolled across the bottom of Book Four a feature we haven’t seen since Book One, surprisingly it’s a recruitment message from Foaly.
