My Netflix Addiction: What Happened To Monday

Sounds very much like a coming of age tale or some fuzzy Rom-Com but don’t let the title fool you. This movie is anything but rosey.
Set in the future, after the human population crisis caused the world to literally run out of food, a genetic mutation made creating food more feasible but the artificial substances in the food caused an insurance in multiple births, ( twins, triplets, etc.) Thus exacerbating an already existence conflict, Overpopulation.

The solution made by Glen Close, a one child per family rule. William Dafoe, plays a man with a big secret, he’s allows his late daughters seven daughters to live as one person. Named for each day of the week, they assume the identity of one Karen.

One day Monday’s Karen goes missing and it all unravels from there.

I do enjoy a good suspense movie and What Happened To Monday, offers the perfect blend of mystery, action and emotion to make this movie great for any Netflix & Chill session.

Weekly Wanna Watch List

JUSTICE LEAGUE

As a DC fan i have to say I’m a little excited about this. Much like what The Avengers did for Marvel; Justice League should solidify the franchise and spawn a truckload of sequels. Super excited,  I’m disappointed Superman won’t be featured though.

THOR:RAGNAROK

The Thor movies always come out around my bday. So of course I’ll be spending this one at the theatre watching!

DEATHNOTE

As a fan of the manga and the anime, I’m excited to see a movie about the series. Looking forward to see how this plays out.

MY FRIEND DAHMER

I have a weird fascination with serial killers. The fact that there is a movie coming out about Dahmer as a teenager is intriguing.

Deadpool 2 – Extended trailer

So as you all know i’m a comic book novice but i absolutely love my super hero movies! Deadpool being one of my many, many favorites I am hyperventilating over the upcoming sequel. Josh Brolin has been teasing pics of him in “Cable” costume and we’ve been fortunate enough to get trailers and photos on the regular. So while we wait for Summer 2018 here’s one of my favorite extended trailers.

Weekly Wanna Watch List (4.3.17 to 4.7.17)

I am all about new movies and 2017 seems to be the year for what you’ve been craving. Each week i’ll be giving a quick overview of of what the movies are supposed to be and whether or not i want to see.

Phoenix Forgotten Phoenix-Forgotten-movie april 21

The mysterious phenomenon known as “The Phoenix Lights”remains the most famous and widely viewed UFO sighting in history. Shortly after the incident, three teens ventured into the desert hoping to document the strange events. They disappeared that night, and were never seen again. Twenty years after their disappearance, unseen footage has been discovered, chronicling the final hours of their fateful expedition.

The movies stars;  Matt Biedel, Hector Luis Bustamante, Ana Dela Cruz none of whom i’m familiar but all of whom have been featured in other films. This movie is PG-13 and is classified under the Drama, Horror and Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre.  I’m indifferent about how much I want to see this movie, but i’m hoping it’s spooky.

Phoenix Forgotten opens – April 21, 2017

What Does DC Stand For?

DC

Somehow I’ve become the go to person for comic book info. For people who know nothing about comics anyway. So today I was explaining that Batman VS Superman was not also a match up between Captain America and Iron Man.

As I was explaining that the two aren’t related because one is DC Comics and the other is Marvel. I was asked the puzzling question…

What does DC stand for?

I naturally assumed it meant nothing merely a moniker for the company. Until I did a little digging. It turns out that back in 1937 when the comic book company was founded it’s first issue was called “Detective Comics” and therefore initialed DC.

The letters DC appeared as a symbol on the covers of comics produced by National Comics, after a merger between Detective Comics and National Allied Publications. Readers still identified with DC Comics, so the company  adopted the name officially.

Marvel uses “Distinguished Competition” as a parody of the brand. Diamond Comics Distributors has also used the initials DC but as DC is actually copyrighted by DC Comics, Diamond comics officially uses the initials DCD.

So now I can go back on Monday and tell my coworkers that I was wrong; unlike our company DC is not a play on words, nor is it a clever bit of random. It’s actually an homage to the rich history of the brand, when Batman and Superman still pretended to be mild mannered.

He then asked which company had  Justice League, that’d be score one for DC! Boom! #TeamDC #LovesHarley

What did you think DC stood for?

Origins – Hades

Hades 1

Hades

King of the Underworld, God of Death and Riches. The greek personification of the DEVIL. In mythology Hades is vengeful oldest sibling of Zeus, Poseidon and Hera often plotting to overthrow the Olympians for his occupation as guardian of the undead.

hades 2In early mythology Hades was born first and regurgitated last, his coup with Poseidon and Zeus freed the cosmos from Titan rule. Zeus was given the Air, and Poseidon the sea, leaving the Underworld for Hades and GAIA a neutral zone.

As we all know Hades was never satisfied with the task set before him and in most modern interpretations of the myth feels unjustly saddled with the underworld desiring instead to rule Earth/Gaia.

His realm in the underworld is known for the three-headed guard dog Cerberus, the ferry-boat on the river Styx,Hades 3 his Helm of Darkness and Bi-dent (it only has 2 prongs). Hades has been  depicted as treacherous, even succumbing to kidnapping his wife and Queen Persephone daughter of Demeter.

Greek mythological history paints him as a passive force. Neutral in behavior every action seemed to be for the sake of keeping balance. Realistically, he was the warden of souls, callous and cruel but fair. No soul was worth more than another.

He is sometimes seen as unappreciated and overworked his primary concern is always his kingdom.

Hades 4Recent interpretations in books have shown him as both a villain and an anti-hero

Hades most recent transformation has occurred on ABCs Once Upon A Time as a villainous tyrant in the underworld causing Havoc for the heroes.

His name is used to describe darkness and death, DC Comics used Hades as a moniker for their villain Darkseid a being who truly personified evil.

Where else can you find Hades?

#FunFact:In Roman Mythology the god of the underworld is known as Pluto.

Hades 6

#ShowsWeLove Fun Fact: Hades is Bo’s father in the final seasons of Lost Girl

Coming Soon! – Captain America: Civil War (Special Assist Trailer)

CaptainAmericaCivilWar3

We’re all waiting with bated breath for the newest installment in the Captain America franchise. If for no reason other than to watch Chris Evan and Robert Downey Jr. hit each other while dressed up like super heroes.

By now we all know the premise. After the Avengers save the world AGAIN, they’re contacted by politicians who have complaints about the damage they’ve left in their wake. (As if there’s a tidy way to knock a robot through a building)

The government requested a political presence involved to direct the team. However, this new adjustment causes a problem.

Captain America and Iron Man have been dying to fight each other since the first Avengers movie, their differences split the team in two; with Captain America wanting no government interference and Iron Man suggesting they do include the government in there operations.

The rest of course is worked out with their fists, the part I’m most interested in seeing.

To keep us panting Marvel recently released a new trailer for the movie. Watch through the end for a sneak peek at the special assist who will also be featured in the new movie.

Check out the new trailer below!
